Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have been closely linked in recent months because of Julian Alvarez.

The Argentine is one of the best attackers in world football and would be a huge upgrade on what Mikel Arteta currently has at his disposal at the Emirates.

It is clear that Arsenal admire Alvarez and would love Atletico to open the door for a transfer this summer. However, that is not the only favour the Gunners need from the Spanish side.

There is another situation involving two Arsenal players that could benefit everyone – Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Both Jesus and Martinelli are facing uncertain futures at Arsenal.

The former Manchester City man will enter the final year of his contract in July, while the latter will only have two years left on his deal at the same stage.

Neither player has been good enough for Arsenal this season, and their struggles were clear in the defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

The two Brazilians failed to make an impact in that game, which ultimately ended Arsenal’s FA Cup run.

TeamTalk have claimed that Atletico Madrid are interested in signing both Jesus and Martinelli in the upcoming summer transfer window.

A club of Atleti’s stature would be capable of paying a significant fee for the two Brazilians. If that happens, it would be a huge boost for Arsenal financially.

Not only would the Gunners receive a good transfer fee, but they would also remove two big salaries from their wage bill.

That is why Arsenal need Atletico Madrid to do them a favour this summer.

Agree or disagree: Julian Alvarez should be Arsenal’s primary target this summer – look what he did to Spurs!

Given Arsenal’s desire to sign Alvarez and Atletico Madrid’s interest in Jesus and Martinelli, a deal between the clubs could make sense.

A swap-style agreement involving the three players would benefit all parties involved, even if it means Arsenal will have to pay some money on top of sending the two Brazilians Atleti’s way.

Andrea Berta could play a key role in making that happen.

The Arsenal sporting director spent a decade at Atletico Madrid, and he understands how the Spanish club operates better than most others.

Those connections could prove crucial in negotiations this summer.

If Berta can pull off a swap deal that would see Arsenal land Alvarez while also getting rid of Martinelli and Jesus, it would be his best piece of business since joining the Gunners.
