Team news

David Wright named an unchanged starting eleven to the team who suffered a late defeat to Southampton at Portman Road last weekend.

Town XI: Negri, Boswell (C), Peake, Weir, Roe (Dean,83), Mitchell, Cavanagh (O’Brien,67), Graham, Peskett (Baker,67), Ashworth-Clifford, Ademiluyi (Thomas,71)

Palace XI: Yanez, Cato, Everett (C), Sharpe, Howat (Hughes,74), Weerden, Ladd, Blanchard (Brown,74), Newell, Larkin, Swaby

Falling behind

It took 15 minutes before the first goal was scored, with it being even up until this point.

A quick free kick from Kirsty Howatt to Ashleigh Weerden caught Town unaware, and the ball went back to Howatt who struck the ball from the corner of the box into the back of the net.

Town tried to get back into it but they struggled to make any real chances.

Palace did have the ball in the back of the net again 10 minutes later, but it was ruled out for offside.

Town were actually the dominant side in the first half, seeing more of the ball and having more shots at goal, but they were unable to test the keeper.

Still struggling

It was even in the second half, with neither side threatening the opposition net.

There was very little of note happening in terms of chances with just speculative efforts being taken.

Kit Graham came closest for Town in the 76th minute after a cross was delivered by Natasha Thomas, and her looped-headed effort had to be tipped over the bar.

In the 82nd minute, Lola Brown found herself in space after a cross, but Town keeper Natalia Negri pulled off a great save to keep it at 1-0.

Up next

Town have just three games left to fight for their future in WSL 2.

Sheffield United at home on April 22 is next, followed by a trip to top of the league Birmingham City and then at home against Sunderland on the final day of the season.

They are still above the relegation zone on goal difference, with one game in hand.
