Manager David Satchell, 62, has been running the pub for more than four years.
He previously managed the High Corner Inn nearby for around 15 years, giving him two decades of experience working in the Forest.
He said: “I’ve been here about four years, and before that I ran the High Corner just up the road for about 15 years.
“So I’ve been in the Forest for 20 years.”

David describes it as a “beautiful traditional inn”, the pub prides itself on being dog-friendly and welcoming to a wide range of visitors.
He said: “We are a beautiful traditional inn. It’s very, very dog friendly.
“We get a lot of walkers, horse riders and cyclists these days, as well as rambling groups and families because we’re very family friendly.”
The pub serves award-winning Wadworth ales and Folly Road craft beers, alongside a rotating selection of seasonal brews from the Folly Road Brewhouse.

David added: “It’s got a lovely outside area.
“Our menu changes regularly, with daily specials. We try to keep dishes seasonal, and we’ve got several new ones coming on.”
David has worked in hospitality since the age of 16, gaining experience in cocktail bars, restaurants and steakhouses.
For the past 20 years, he has worked with Wadworth.
“For the last 20-odd years I’ve worked for Wadworth, who are a really, really good family brewer,” he said.
The pub also hosts a variety of events to keep customers entertained, including live music evenings, a book club and games nights.

“We do a book club and games nights where there are board games on the tables for people to come along and play. We try all sorts of different things to keep it interesting for everybody.”
Despite its remote setting, the manager said the pub enjoys strong support from regulars and is well-known among tourists.
He added: “We’re very lucky.
“Although we’re in a beautiful, quite isolated part of the forest, we have a very good base of regulars, especially on a Sunday night.
“It’s also a well-known spot for tourists because we’re genuinely right out in the middle of the Forest.”
