The proposal to demolish the current building at 16 Lakeside Road in Poole and build a block of four flats was previously approved by planning officers in April 2025.

Nine people objected to the plans raising concerns about the effect on the chine, overdevelopment, impact on parking and loss of privacy for neighbours. Initially BCP Highway Authority and BCP Tree Officer both raised objection to the plans which have been amended after further information was received.

At a planning meeting on April 2 officers reminded the committee that they were only looking at the variation to the current plans and not the development as a whole.

Kjell Bengtsson said in a written statement: “We are concerned about the integrity of the piling, the drainage in an area of coastal erosion, and the creation of an unprotected eight metre death trap cliff drop.”

After some debate where members expressed their frustration with the development but noted that a lot of the issues with the site could not be considered by the planning committee/

The amendments to the development were granted planning permission after a vote six to two in favour with one councillor abstaining.
