Tottenham Hotspur have been tipped to make a shock move for a Randal Kolo Muani upgrade this summer, by European football expert Andy Brassell.

New manager Roberto De Zerbi’s full focus is on keeping Tottenham in the Premier League with seven matches of the season left to play, with big changes surely incoming whatever division they find themselves in next season.

For the second successive campaign, Tottenham are in 17th position in the final weeks of the Premier League season, but unlike last term, they are in immediate danger of being relegated to the Championship.

In fact, by the time they kick off De Zerbi’s first match in charge against Sunderland a week on Sunday, they could be in the bottom three, should West Ham United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the weekend.

De Zerbi will be confident of his ability to deliver a first league win since December and keep Spurs in the top flight, especially given he has no relegation release clause in the five-year deal he signed.

Should the Italian accomplish his mission, he needs to be backed in the summer transfer window to return the north Londoners to where they belong in the Premier League table.

Tottenham Tipped to Sign Aubameyang for De Zerbi

Speaking on talkSPORT this week, Brassell told Tottenham to make a shock swoop for former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to star in De Zerbi’s new-look XI.

It would be a stunning move for many reasons, not least because he turns 37 years of age in June, as well as the fact he played for the Gunners for four years, also captaining them on occasions.

But Brassell believes the Gabon international is still ‘so good’ despite the fact he is in the latter stages of his career, and could still do a short-term job for Spurs and De Zerbi.

The expert said: “Perhaps a little bit out there for some people, I’d go for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“He’s going to turn 37 in the summer, so it’s a short-term signing. It would be for a good time rather than a long time.

“He has been so good since he’s left the Premier League.

“He’s so unbelievably intelligent, he stretches the game by taking the ball down the flanks, he defends really tigerishly. He keeps himself incredibly fit. He scores and creates.”

Aubameyang Would be a Big Kolo Muani Upgrade

Given his pedigree, hopes were high when Randal Kolo Muani joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but the Frenchman has been a flop in a tough season for Tottenham.

While he has performed fairly well in the Champions League with four goals, the France international’s return of one goal in 23 Premier League appearances simply isn’t good enough.

While Aubameyang would be 37 when he lined up for the first time in a Spurs shirt, he knows how to score goals in England and that would be a big boost.

Of course, he also knows De Zerbi’s style and would need less adaptation time than a player who has never played under the Italian before.

Brassell himself believes that Aubameyang would be a ‘better version of what Randal Kolo Muani should have been for Tottenham’.

With all of this said, whether Tottenham would make a move for a former Arsenal star, or if he would be willing to risk his popularity among Gunners fans by playing for Spurs, is very much up for debate.
