Mohamed Salah is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Curtis Jones has expressed what a privilege it has been to witness Mohamed Salah’s journey first-hand, as he opened up about the Egyptian star’s impending exit from Anfield. The 33-year-old confirmed during the international break that the 2025/26 campaign will be his final season at Liverpool.
Posting on social media with a heartfelt statement, he said: “Hello everyone. Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.

“We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates past and present.
“And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest time. It’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.
“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you. This club will always be my home to me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
Now, speaking publicly for the first time about his long-standing team-mate’s impending departure, Jones has spelt out exactly what Salah means to Liverpool.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City, the 25-year-old said: “I’m speaking as a fan as well, it’s obviously hard to see a player like Mo [leave], who has given this club everything.”
“The records that he’s set and broken himself…it’s been a joy to be a part of his journey and see how hard that he’s worked. You always see Mo with the goals and assists and the exciting times that he’s given.
“As a player, I’ve seen how hard he works in the gym and how much he looks after himself, his body and recovery and all the extras he puts in. I’ve learned and taken a lot from him. I’m not built like Mo but I try to have the same mindset.
“I try to use the stuff that he’s done, I’ve learned a lot from him. He leaves as a legend and he’s achieved everything he can. Good luck to him.”
Curtis Jones has been speaking about Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool departure.
When quizzed by Robbie Fowler on whether it spurs him on to ensure Salah departs as ‘a winner’ this summer, Jones added: “100 per cent yeah. I think that Mo would want that as well.
“He knows we’ve always got his back, the same way he’s always had ours. This season has been up and down but it would be nice to finish on a high.
“We can see that the games are coming thick and fast against good teams but of course we’re always going to give our best for the fans and the team, and especially now for Mo.”
Salah’s exit from the club comes as quite a surprise, given that the forward only penned a contract extension last year which was set to keep him on Merseyside until 2027.
However, following a below-par campaign by his own remarkably lofty standards, the Anfield icon clearly feels the time is right to bid his farewells.
This season, Salah has netted 10 goals and laid on nine assists from 34 appearances across all competitions.
While still a remarkable return for a player who predominantly operates as a right winger, it represents a step down from the 29 goals and 18 assists that Salah delivered as Liverpool romped to the Premier League title last time around.
