With spring well underway, we asked fans how optimistic (or pessimistic) they were feeling ahead of the season’s run-in.

And, as you can see in the results from The Athletic’s patented Hope-o-meter above, the mood music around Manchester City and Liverpool is pretty different.

City fans, fresh off the back of winning the Carabao Cup against Arsenal, are 79.7 per cent optimistic and 20.3 per cent pessimistic, the 10th most optimistic among Premier League teams.

They are in a nice shade of blue, unlike Liverpool in red.

Only 22.2 per cent of Liverpool fans are looking forward to the rest of the campaign, with a whopping 77.8 per cent dreading the season’s denouement.

Chelsea and Tottenham are the only fanbases less optimistic. Will that play out on the pitch today?
