ALISSON BECKER – 7
Didn’t have a whole lot to do besides shuffle a few passes out to the defenders but made a vital stop in stoppage time. The mark of a quality goalkeeper.
CURTIS JONES – 8
Important clearance at the back post denied Brighton an early chance and was always willing to support the players further forward. Went close with a left-footed strike from outside the area and took his goal really well. Stoppage-time slip was unfortunate but didn’t cost his team.
IBRAHIMA KONATE – 7
Continued his decent run of form with another half of football without putting a foot wrong. Seems to be enjoying his football once more.
VIRGIL VAN DIJK – 7
Largely untroubled during the first period as he looked to build attacks from the back.
MILOS KERKEZ – 8
Incurred the Van Dijk wrath a couple of times with his passing but was generally solid and aggressive, in typical style. Rasping drive late in the half brought a really good save. Cross for the goal was excellent.
DOMINIK SZOBOSZLAI – 6
Restored to his favoured midfield position and was sharp and mobile. Forced to do too much of his work defending though.
ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER – 6
Made an important block from Koustoulas, who was lining up one. Won a lot of his battles but not enough creativity when in possession.
MOHAMED SALAH – 6
Wasted a good chance to deliver into the box early on and was thwarted later in the half by Steele. Was always a threat even when not totally at his best.
FLORIAN WIRTZ – 5
A little off the pace after starting a third game in six days. Usual bits of trickery didn’t quite come off as they have been of late. Too quiet.
CODY GAKPO – 6
Always willing to run at the Brighton defence and took his ‘goal’ well only to see the offside flag raised. Made a good block late in the half to concede a corner.
FEDERICO CHIESA – 5
Struggled to get into the game through the middle and was unable to get in behind the Brighton backline. Didn’t connect properly with Salah’s lay-off late on.
