At the bottom, both Burnley and Brentford recorded 0 minutes for their academy players.

When it came to the number of graduates who have featured in this season’s PL, Brighton were joint second with Manchester United, with six footballers.

First position was Manchester City, with seven.

Brighton CEO and Deputy Chairman Paul Barber has always spoken out about Albion’s recruitment model.

Speaking to Coaches’ Voice last year, Barber said: “As well as wanting short-term wins, though, we do a lot of planning ahead.

“If you’re a club of Brighton’s size, you’re never going to be able to compete with the fees that the bigger clubs are spending on players.

“You have to have a long-term plan.

“We put a lot of work into developing players. We invested in a world-class training facility and are putting more money into improving it…

“We want to bring in players who we can develop, so that they are either good enough to play for us or to sell for a profit.”

Players like Jack Hinshelwood, Robert Sanchez, Ben White, Harry Howell and Evan Ferguson have recently come through Albion’s academy, to name a few.
