On the hunt for their next permanent manager, Manchester United and INEOS are now ready to make a “formal” approach to hire an impressive 4-2-3-1 manager.
Man Utd make three-man managerial shortlist
Manchester United may have turned their season around under interim boss Michael Carrick, but INEOS still have plenty of questions to answer this summer.
They must make sure that any improvement that Carrick has made does not turn into simple short-term reprieve. The long-term fix must start as soon as this summer arrives.

The Red Devils mean business…
Just who that long-term fix will be remains to be seen, however. It certainly wasn’t Ruben Amorim and it may not be Carrick, even though the interim boss is one of three names on the shortlist, according to reports.
Indeed, Carrick is still in the frame to land the job on a permanent basis, but many at Old Trafford will be getting flashbacks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if they head down that route this summer.
Another option is Mauricio Pochettino. The USA manager has a World Cup to contend with however, and it looks as though Man United’s negotiations will be tougher than first thought.
“There is a mechanism in Pochettino’s contract, to not leave immediately. His contract runs for a limbo month, giving a few wind-down weeks in August. So if you want Pochettino for the start of the Premier League season, United will still have to go to US Soccer and negotiate that exit.” – Ben Jacobs
The fact is that the Red Devils have been stuck in a managerial Groundhog Day ever since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson over 10 years ago, and simply must get things right this summer.
It means that a move for Julian Nagelsmann should be the priority. According to Ben Jacobs, speaking to The United Stand, the German is the third possibility in the running currently.
Man Utd set to make formal approach to Julian Nagelsmann
A young manager ready to take the Premier League by storm, Nagelsmann is everything that Man United were hoping Amorim would be, and according to Jacobs, “formal” approaches for candidates are imminent.

“Nagelsmann and Carrick are higher than Pochettino currently. In April, there will be some formal outreach to other candidates.
“With Nagelsmann, he is contracted until 2028, and is open to a club job this summer. He has been keen to manage in the Premier League.”
The 4-2-3-1 manager is currently in charge of Germany ahead of the 2026 World Cup and is contracted until 2028, but could make a decision about his future after the tournament – at which point Man United could reach an agreement.
Dubbed “extraordinary” by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Nagelsmann is still just 38 years old, but already has a wealth of experience.
He’s taken charge of Bayern Munich and is set to take charge of his first World Cup. At a time when the majority of the Premier League has chosen a pragmatic approach, Nagelsmann would provide a much-needed shake-up to hand Man United an instant advantage.
