Leicester City were among the Championship’s top spenders for agent fees over the past two transfer windows despite limited business.

The FA’s newly-released data showed City paid £5.9m to agents from February 2025 to February 2026, the third-biggest figure in the division.

That’s despite City bringing just nine players to the club over those windows, with six of them on loan and no transfer fees spent. Only Coventry have made fewer signings over the past 12 months.

City’s £5.9m paled in comparison to biggest spenders Ipswich on £11.7m, with fellow relegated club Southampton in second on £8.4m.

But City’s agent expenditure also dwarfs the lowest spenders in the Championship, with Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn, Portsmouth and Charlton all spending less than £1m.

Delve deeper and City did conduct a reasonable amount of deals that required agent spending, such as those to bring former manager Marti Cifuentes and his assistant Xavi Calm to the club.

City also handed out new contracts during the 12 months to Luke Thomas, Bade Aluko, Louis Page and Jake Evans among others.

There were also agent fees involved in transactions out of the club, such as those for Wilfred Ndidi and Wout Faes.

But the 33 agent-involved deals listed still puts City under the Championship average.

However, the figure is lower than it has been at City for quite a while. Last season, they paid £9.8m to agents, while the figure stood at £8.1m the last time they were in the Championship.
