Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has ended up on AC Milan’s radar in view of the summer window, according to a report.
Milan are known to be in the market for a new striker and have been linked with a whole host of different names, from Robert Lewandowski and Dusan Vlahovic to Moise Kean and Mateo Retegui. The list keeps getting longer too, it seems.
Milan sense Watkins opportunity
According to SportsBoom, Ollie Watkins ‘could be playing in Serie A next season’ as Milan are now in the race to sign him. It has not been the best of seasons so far for the Englishman, who was out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the recent pre-World Cup friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
Indeed the Rossoneri still sense the opportunity to sign a top striker, and are ‘strongly courting Watkins’. Newcastle United have also earmarked Watkins as a summer target, who has a contract until 2028.
Last season showed how good Watkins can be, with 17 goals and 14 assists racked up across all competitions. This term has been a bit more of a struggle, with 10 goals and two assists, but Milan are keen on him ‘despite the drop off’.
In the past, Milan have had success in terms of buying players from the Premier League that have been considered to be in a bit of a dip, such as Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic. Either way, they need a 20-goal striker.
