West Ham defender Ezra Mayers’ 2025/26 season just keeps getting better and better.

Mayers made his Hammers debut in December and has since played eight more times in the Premier League and FA Cup.

The 19-year-old’s breakthrough was then rewarded with a call-up to the England U19s squad for the March international break.

Not only has Mayers played for the Three Lions over the last fortnight but he’s also now an international goalscorer.

Mayers was called up to the England U19s squad last week alongside West Ham academy teammate Airidas Golambeckis.

The U19s faced three qualification games for the European Championship this summer, against Serbia, Poland and Portugal.

Mayers started at left-back in England’s 2-0 defeat to Serbia, in which Golambeckis made a costly mistake at the back.

While Golambeckis was dropped for the next two games, Mayers kept his place in Will Antwi’s starting line-up.

Mayers helped England win their next two games, with consecutive clean sheets, and even scored his first goal against Portugal.

The defender has gone from having no international experience to being a key part of the England setup in less than a fortnight.

This also bodes well for Mayers’ future at West Ham, where he will be looking to become a first-team regular next season.

He might even get the opportunity to start for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side against Leeds in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
