Two years ago today, Jeremy Sarmiento produced one of the greatest moments at Portman Road in recent history when netting a late winner against Southampton.

It was an extraordinary Easter Monday game that still gives many Town fans goosebumps.

Leif Davis belted home a fantastic opener before the Saints struck back to go 2-1 ahead, but Nathan Broadhead levelled things midway through the second half and the game looked like it was heading for a 2-2 draw.

However, Ecuadorian loanee Sarmiento delivered the 97th-minute winner, initially mis-kicking in a crowded box before fashioning a poked finish to create an explosion of noise.

It was a moment that proved pivotal to Kieran McKenna’s men going on to secure automatic promotion and ending the club’s 22-year absence from the Premier League.

Sarmiento is currently on loan at Championship promotion rivals Middlesbrough, who will visit Portman Road on Sunday, April 19th for a massive game in Suffolk.

Hopefully he doesn’t have another say in this promotion race…
