Edozie was frozen out of the matchday squad at the start of the season, only making his first appearance against Watford in February.

The 23 year old was a regular in training after the summer transfer window shut, and returned to action after a chat with head coach Tonda Eckert.

Southampton’s recent 1-0 win over Norwich saw Edozie start his first game for the club since April 2024 after a loan spell at Anderlecht last season.

With nine games under his belt since returning, Edzoie hopes he can continue to make an impact as Saints aim to earn promotion.

“The start of the season was a tough period for me,” he said, speaking to the Daily Echo.

“I’m back playing now, doing what I enjoy, so I’m happy. It was a tough time, but I’m back helping the team, and I hope that I can continue to do so.

“It was a very different experience in Belgium, but I enjoyed it. Playing in Europe is something I’ve always wanted to do.

“It was a big moment for me. It was a great season with Anderlecht, but I’m happy to be back at Saints now.

“I was working really hard to make sure that I was fit during the time when I wasn’t playing much. I’m pleased to see it paying off.”

Edozie has caught the eye since his return, particularly in Leo Scienza’s absence, with the Brazilian missing the last three games.

The former Manchester City prospect assisted Cyle Larin after Scienza was withdrawn at West Brom, and contributed to wins before the international break

“I’m just trying to do what I can, play my part. Leo was a big loss; hopefully he is back soon,” he added when asked about his recent praise.

“Perhaps Leo and I can play together and create some magical moments.”

Scienza was not present for the opening training at St Mary’s on Monday, with the club indicating he was due to return to sessions later in the week.

Edozie could well start down the left against Arsenal on Saturday, and has highlighted the magnitude of the next three games.

After this weekend’s quarter-final, Saints will face play-off rivals Wrexham and Derby County in back-to-back Championship fixtures.

“They are big games, but we are excited. Arsenal are a Premier League team, so we want to show what we can do against them,” he continued.

“Then we have some important games in the Championship. We are excited for the next run of games; hopefully, we get the results we need.

“We want to win every game. We don’t see the game against Arsenal as a free hit. We will go out to win and hopefully get that done.”
