Manchester United are in the midst of yet another rebuild as they transition away from Ruben Amorim and his style to the next manager tasked with taking them back to their former glory. There are a number of players who are going to have questions asked of them this summer, as fans want to move on to better and more exciting names to build on the core pieces currently available. We take a look at just five that could face heavy scrutiny at Manchester United.

With the League well out of reach of rival Arsenal, the club look to have a stranglehold on one of the remaining Champions League spots. That, along with massive revenue from sponsorships, the club will surely have money to spend. Many clubs are turning to strategic new partnerships, such as cryptocurrency businesses and platforms like Rocketplay – Australian online pokies. Focusing on fan experiences, these represented more integrated revenue streams for the club in new value-driven ecosystems.

The bottom line is, the money will be there to spend. But can they get it right this time?

Five Players Facing Heavy Scrutiny at Manchester United
Benjamin Sesko

It hasn’t been the worst debut campaign for the striker who made a big-money move from RB Leipzig last year. Despite that, there are obvious eyebrows being raised when so much is spent for a return of 10 goals in all competitions. Sesko has the benefit of being on the younger side, so there is patience both inside Manchester United and outside of it that he will improve.

That said, he will be expected to kick on in a second season after getting a full year to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, particularly with Rasmus Hojlund rediscovering his scoring touch in Napoli.

Harry Maguire

Often coming in for more criticism than maybe he should, Harry Maguire is in an interesting position in his career. With his contract winding down, there are understandable questions about whether it is time for the Red Devils to move on from the 33-year-old. His veteran presence is, of course, a massive benefit to have in the back line, but age catches up to everyone eventually. With defenders like Leny Yoro waiting in the wings, it could be time for the side to move on from the Englishman.

If he does get renewed, then the pressure will be on him to prove that he can win his battle against age and be a valuable member of the squad as he nears his 34th birthday.

Manuel Ugarte

Casemiro is confirmed to be leaving in the summer, which breaks up both of the main partnerships the Red Devils have used this season. With the multi-time Champions League winner out the door, there are big questions about who, if anyone, could replace the know-how and mentality he brings to Manchester.

The man once signed to be the successor to Manuel Ugarte has underperformed since making his big-money move from Paris Saint-Germain. The midfield is a key spot that the club needs to rebuild, having already revamped the attack in 2025. With that will come the decision on whether Ugarte is good enough to replace Casemiro or if another defensive midfield signing will need to be made.

Joshua Zirzkee

Likely to go down as one of the worst signings the team have made, the former Bologna man was signed for a hefty fee to connect the midfield phase with the attacking phase, but his time in England has been abysmal so far. Currently struggling to break into the squad at all, he has only totalled roughly 600 minutes in the current campaign.

With a former player lumping him in as “absolutely useless”, there will be major questions asked if the club keeps hold of the attacker and fails to find a suitor for him.

Mason Mount

Signed for big money from direct rivals Chelsea, Mason Mount has flattered to deceive on more than one occasion since moving to Manchester United. With his poor injury luck behind him, there is now a keener focus on his on-field performances, which have only resulted in three goals this season.

As Amad breathes down his neck, Mbuemo and Cunha hold things down, and Sesko is expected to take a leap, the Englishman will quickly find himself on the outside looking in if he can’t add a reasonable output to his game.
