A former bingo hall is set to be demolished to make way for more than 150 affordable homes. The former Buzz Bingo site in Belle Vue near Gorton closed in 2023.

A public consultation on draft plans for the site’s redevelopment have since been launched by Kellen Homes and Jigsaw Homes Group, who say they plan to deliver 152 new affordable homes, alongside new green spaces, improved connections and high-quality public realm.

The bingo hall closed down due to the dwindling number of players following the Covid lockdowns as well as the ‘ongoing and challenging operating environment’ of increased energy bills and other costs.

Developers say the site is located within an established residential area, close to local services, schools and public transport and that ‘redeveloping the site presents an opportunity to bring a long-vacant piece of land back into use, support regeneration within an existing neighbourhood and make better use of previously developed land.’

Kellen Homes and Jigsaw Homes are seeking feedback from local residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders before submitting a planning application to Manchester City Council. A consultation on the scheme is running from Thursday, March 26 until Tuesday, April 7.

A prior approval application for the demolition of the existing building was submitted last week, in advance of a full planning application for the wider redevelopment of the site.

As part of the consultation, a dedicated website has been launched, featuring detailed information about the proposals and a virtual exhibition explaining the plans in more detail.

Garnet Fazackerley, Operations Director of Development at Jigsaw Homes Group, said: “This is an important opportunity to engage with the local community about how we can bring much-needed affordable homes to the area. The site has been unused for some time, and working in partnership with Kellen Homes, we have a chance to transform it into a well-designed neighbourhood that genuinely meets local needs.

“We’re keen to hear residents’ and stakeholders’ views, understand their priorities, and ensure their feedback helps shape our proposals before a planning application is submitted.”

Local residents are encouraged to take part in the consultation by visiting www.newhomesforbellevue.co.uk, where they can view the proposals and complete the online feedback form. Leaflets will also be distributed locally.
