Police horses and drones will be out in force for the Norwich City and Ipswich Town derby next month.

Extra officers are being brought in as a sell-out crowd is expected on Saturday 11th April 2026 – and fans are warned to arrive early, with possible road closures around Carrow Road.

In collaboration with both football clubs and other key partners, police have designed their operation to focus on public safety, crime prevention, and aiding the movement of fans to and from the stadium.

Officers from across Norfolk and Suffolk will be deployed in key areas, including around Carrow Road and the city centre, and the operation will utilise drones and police horses.

Chief Superintendent Wes Hornigold, who is leading the operation, highlighted the balance between enjoying the match and maintaining safety.

“This is a great derby between two local clubs and although we understand the rivalry, we also know most fans want to get behind their team on the pitch and enjoy this special day,” Hornigold said.

“Our primary responsibility is to keep people safe. This year, the travel restrictions have required us to be flexible with our policing plans and we have been working closely with both football clubs and partner agencies to identify the most practical and proportionate options to support everyone. These conversations will continue to ensure that all supporters can enjoy the match.”
