Reece James Chilcott, 34, of Westridge Road, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Portsmouth Crown Court on Thursday, March 26, after admitting burglary other than a dwelling and breaching a community order.

The court heard that, at around 4am on Sunday, January 25, an alarm was triggered at Boots Pharmacy on Sandown High Street.

Officers attending the scene discovered a window had been smashed, a cash register containing £200 had been taken, and around £500 worth of prescription medication also stolen.

The stolen items have since been recovered.

A rock believed to have been used to smash the window was found nearby, with damage estimated at £1,000.

Following enquiries, Chilcott and his brother, Billy Brian Chilcott, 31, of no fixed address, were arrested and charged.

Both men admitted the burglary at the IW Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 27.

His brother was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison in February.

Speaking after Reece Chilcott’s sentencing, Chief Inspector Andy McDonald said the outcome demonstrated the seriousness with which such offences are treated.

“Today’s sentence sends a strong message that burglary offences, which directly impact the lives of business owners and our residents, will be investigated thoroughly and perpetrators will be pursued through the justice system.

“These break-ins are hugely disruptive to our local community, impacting access to vital medication for vulnerable people on the IW.

“I am also proud of the work we have done with local partners, including businesses, local NHS services, Public Health, and the council, to safeguard these sites to reduce the risk of future burglaries and disruption to these vital services.”
