It promises to be an intriguing summer transfer window for Aston Villa, whether the club qualifies for the Champions League or not.
With seven league matches remaining this season, Villa hold a six-point cushion inside the top five – a position that would secure a return to UEFA’s elite club competition.
Winning the Europa League is also a key objective over the final two months of the campaign, particularly given that Villa have not lifted a major trophy for 30 years.
Should Villa qualify for the Champions League, they will have greater flexibility in the transfer market, although financial regulations will still place constraints on their spending.
Here is the transfer status of every player in the Villa squad…
Emi Martinez
Martinez came close to leaving Villa last summer and had expected the 2024/25 campaign to be his final one with the club, having broken down in tears after the final home match against Tottenham. There is every chance he could move on in the upcoming window, although lifting the Europa League in May could see all parties part ways on a high. The Argentina international will turn 34 in September and is one of the club’s highest earners.
Marco Bizot
Bizot was a solid addition last summer and is expected to remain the club’s backup goalkeeper next season.
Matty Cash
Cash has arguably been Villa’s player of the season. He signed a new contract last year, committing his long-term future to the club.
Andres Garcia
Garcia could leave this summer, either on loan or permanently if a suitable offer arrives. He has featured only sparingly this season, accumulating around 70 minutes of playing time.
Ezri Konsa
Konsa has two years remaining on his contract and will turn 29 in October. Given Villa did not capitalise financially on players like Martinez or Ollie Watkins at their peak value, it will be interesting to see their stance if interest arises in Konsa following the World Cup. While the club will want to retain top talent, they must also consider the need to generate funds.
Victor Lindelof
Lindelof has arguably been Villa’s signing of the season – a surprising outcome for a free transfer completed on deadline day.
Pau Torres
Torres has stated in an interview with Marca that he intends to see out his contract, which runs until 2028.
Tyrone Mings
Mings signed a 12-month contract extension at the end of last season.
Ian Maatsen
Maatsen has not progressed as quickly as expected in his first two seasons. Villa may receive tentative interest in him. Although he has started more games recently than Lucas Digne, he is not yet the undisputed first choice.
Lucas Digne
Digne signed a contract extension last year, tying him to the club until 2028. At 32, Villa would gain limited transfer value from a sale, aside from freeing up wages. However, his experience remains valuable.
Boubacar Kamara
Kamara signed a new contract last summer, which was excellent business. Another serious knee injury in January may deter potential suitors.
Lamare Bogarde
Interest in Bogarde has grown, with Brighton among the clubs monitoring him. Despite his development, he has struggled for consistent Premier League starts this season.
Amadou Onana
Onana chose Villa in 2024 despite multiple offers, believing it to be the best environment for his development. He knows that he still has room for growth even if he is one of the club’s most valuable assets.
Youri Tielemans
Tielemans will have two years remaining on his deal this summer. He has been one of the league’s standout midfielders over the past 18 months, and Villa noticeably miss his creativity when he is absent. Approaching 29, his market value is gradually declining, though he joined on a free transfer.
Douglas Luiz
Villa have the option to re-sign Luiz for around £23 million, but he has not shown enough to justify that fee. With Ross Barkley previously preferred and Tielemans now back from injury, a permanent move could be in doubt.
Ross Barkley
Barkley may consider leaving if another Premier League club can offer more consistent playing time. While he has contributed in key matches, Emery cannot guarantee regular minutes. He will turn 33 later this year, and his contract is nearing its end.
John McGinn
Villa kept McGinn last summer amid interest from clubs including Everton, reaffirming his importance to the squad. He signed a new deal last year.
Harvey Elliott
Emery confirmed last year that Villa will not exercise their option to sign Elliott permanently.
Emi Buendia
Buendia was previously told he could leave but opted to stay and fight for his place. After a strong first half of the season, his output has dipped. Villa may consider selling him as his market value declines, although his contributions still make him a useful squad option.
Jadon Sancho
Villa could pursue a permanent deal for Sancho, but only if he agrees to a significant wage reduction. Borussia Dortmund are also interested in re-signing him.

Leon Bailey
Bailey is expected to leave this summer. After an underwhelming loan spell at Roma and an inconsistent return to Villa, he has struggled to impress.
Morgan Rogers
Rogers is likely to attract significant interest, but Villa are in a strong negotiating position. He signed a long-term deal until 2031, and clubs such as Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring him. Villa would demand a huge fee.
Alysson
Emery will assess Alysson during pre-season before deciding whether he should remain in the squad or go out on loan.
Ollie Watkins
Watkins has two years left on his contract and will turn 30 this year. This summer may represent Villa’s best opportunity to maximise his transfer value, although Villa may view his on-field contribution could outweigh any financial benefit, just like last summer.
Tammy Abraham
Abraham is settling back into life at Villa following his return in January. He will be hoping for increased playing time in the final months of the season and beyond.
