The Hong Kong Cultural Market brought together local residents and visitors on Saturday to experience authentic street food, handmade products and performances, all organised by members of Southampton’s growing Hong Kong community.
Organiser Paul Woodman, from City Life Church, said the event highlighted the strong presence of Hong Kongers in the city.

He added: “We have around 1,000 people living in Southampton from Hong Kong which I think is just incredible.
“We have some amazing culture in our city and the people of Hong Kong have come here because they believe in freedom and democracy and they have really brought so much culture to our city.
“I love the way they connect with each other and their strong sense of family is really beautiful.”

She said: “I have spent the last five years creating candles of different designs using techniques I have learnt.
“I have made candles that look like a cup of lemon and milk tea which is very popular in Hong Kong culture.
“The candles are also scented and I try to match up the different scents with my designs. Now I have been doing it for some time I can be much more creative.”
The event also drew support from civic leaders, including Lord Mayor, Cllr James Baillie.
He said: “Southampton is a city which has a massive history of bringing together people from all around the world.
“We are so fortune to have people like the Hong Kongers we have here today showcasing their amazing culture – getting to see all those different cultures and bringing them together is what makes Southampton fantastic.”
Organisers said the free, family-friendly event aimed to strengthen community ties while celebrating the diversity that continues to shape Southampton.
