Tottenham Hotspur have been in talks with Roberto De Zerbi for a week and his staff are now being discussed, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

The club want the Italian to replace the departed Igor Tudor, and talks between the two parties have been progressing well.

De Zerbi was not keen on joining Spurs with only a few games left in the season, but it appears an agreement has almost been reached to bring him to London.

The fact that negotiations over his backroom staff are ongoing speaks volumes, and De Zerbi could be on his way to England in the coming hours.

De Zerbi was linked with Tottenham after Thomas Frank was sacked in February, but the job went to Tudor instead.

The Croatian lasted 44 days and seven games in the job, and Spurs could be relegated if no immediate improvement is forthcoming.

De Zerbi knows the Premier League from his time at Brighton & Hove Albion and will be desperate to hit the ground running if appointed as the next Tottenham boss.

The Lilywhites are 17th in the table after 31 games, just one point above the relegation zone. They must improve significantly over the next seven fixtures to remain in the Premier League.

Spurs are back in action after the international break on April 12 when they take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

De Zerbi could be taking charge of training in the coming days once everything is wrapped up.

Tudor’s former assistant Bruno Saltor is currently leading training until a new appointment is made, and fans will hope their next boss has what it takes to keep them in the top-flight.
