West Ham face an era-defining two months after the March international break concludes next week.

The East Londoners have just seven Premier League matches remaining to climb above Tottenham and avoid relegation to the Championship.

However, Hammers supporters might also have one eye on the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.

So, we asked them whether they would prefer West Ham to stay in the Premier League or England to win the World Cup.

Choose between club and country… 🤔

Hammers News asked West Ham supporters on Facebook and on our fan-focused platform, TalkingPoints, to choose between the two outcomes.

We received over 140 responses, with most fans sharing the same view: West Ham first; England second.

“Stay up all day long” and “settle for survival” summed up the feeling in our TalkingPoints comment section.

Meanwhile, some supporters gave even more emphatic responses in favour of West Ham staying up on Facebook.

“Couldn’t care less about England, to be honest. It will be the same old, same old, out at the semis, but West Ham means everything to me,” one wrote.

Another added: “110% West Ham stay up. Let’s face it, England never really pick West Ham players as they don’t want to win the World Cup like 1966.”

Indeed, Jarrod Bowen is the only West Ham player with a genuine chance of making Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man World Cup squad.

However, a minority of Hammers fans would accept Championship football next season if it meant that England won the World Cup.

“Great question, West Ham have always had ups and downs,” read one response. “My loyalty will never change, a Hammer forever, but England winning the World Cup would be my first choice.”

“Always England first,” another replied. “Plus, we have a better chance of staying up than England do of winning the World Cup.”

Obviously, almost every West Ham supporter would love both things to happen, but it was fascinating to see where their priorities lie.
