Federico Gatti to West Ham United could be a harder deal to make, as the defender could instead reunite with his former manager, Massimiliano Allegri.

Gatti has long been linked with the Irons, with interest first emerging back in 2023. A year later, reports resurfaced that the E20 outfit were still keeping tabs.

Things had gone quiet on that front until the turn of 2026, with Gatti’s future at Juventus once again up for question.

The Hammers have again emerged as a potential destination for the 27-year-old centre-back.

However, a transfer to West Ham could now be complicated, with AC Milan also looking to secure the signature of the Italian.

Federico Gatti and Massimiliano Allegri history could thwart West Ham move

Juventus’ financial situation means Gatti could be sold, and West Ham have been named as one of the interested parties.

However, the arrival of AC Milan into the mix could be a stumbling block in any move for the Italian defender.

The Rossoneri, who are managed by Allegri, hold a unique advantage in convincing Gatti of their project.

At Juventus, Allegri was the manager in charge when the Old Lady purchased the centre-back from Frosinone.

Calciomercato has reported that the 27-year-old “would be happy to work with Allegri again”.

Gatti may weigh up the temptation to work with a manager who had once put a lot of trust in him at Juventus. The history involved is an advantage that the Hammers would not be able to match.

If West Ham are looking to sign Gatti and have serious interest, they will have to offer Juventus a more appealing deal.

According to the report, Gatti is valued at around £15.6million, with the Milan-based club in a position to offer a loan with an option to buy, which could become mandatory.

The Hammers could sweeten their own deal by offering a straight-up permanent transfer, leaving Gatti to decide on whether to stay in Turin or take the leap to play Premier League football.

While Allegri’s interest certainly complicates matters, it does not mean the Irons are entirely out of the question.

A lot will rely on whether or not West Ham get relegated at the end of this season.
