Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he’ll be back at Anfield next year after enjoying the experience of Saturday’s legends game. The former Liverpool boss was part of Sir Kenny Dalglish’s coaching team for the occasion, which was in aid of the LFC Foundation.
Although he didn’t take to the pitch, Klopp was still one of the star attractions for the game against Borussia Dortmund legends. The German spent eight-and-a-half years in charge of Liverpool before stepping down at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, having previously managed Dortmund.
He is now Red Bull‘s global head of soccer, but joined Dalglish, Ian Rush and John Aldridge to oversee a Liverpool side packed with familiar faces, including Steven Gerrard, Thiago Alcantara, Pepe Reina and Peter Crouch. Liverpool raced into a 2-0 lead through goals from Thiago and Jay Spearing before Dortmund fought back to draw 2-2 at Anfield.
Klopp soaked up the love inside the stadium and hinted at a return in future. “It was good. Nothing really changed. I enjoyed every second,” Klopp said.

“My role today was not to have a lot of words – I was here for the Foundation and be part of a really special experience after a while, seeing all the Liverpool and Dortmund lads, you don’t meet very often.
“Today it was really nice. The people suck it in. It was so nice to see the boys playing. Thiago alone was worth the ticket!” Asked if he would come back next year, Klopp replied: “Yeah!”
Klopp was replaced by Arne Slot in the Liverpool dugout and the Dutchman has endured a much more difficult second campaign after winning the Premier League last season. The Reds sit fifth in the league table, but are still in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Klopp has been linked with a return to Liverpool, as well Real Madrid and the German national team, but is content with his role at Red Bull for now. “I’m in a place, as a person, where I’m completely at peace with where I am. I don’t want to be somewhere else,” Klopp told AFP in January.
“Do I want to coach again? At the moment, I would say no, but I cannot say never, never, never. I don’t expect to change my mind, but I don’t know.”
However, if he was to return to England, it would be with Liverpool because he can’t see himself managing a rival club. “I said I will never coach a different team in England so that means, if [I did return], then it’s Liverpool,” he said last year. “So, yeah, theoretically it is possible.”
