The Reds showed real resilience to triumph in the Merseyside Derby.
Much has been said of Liverpool’s performances this season, but many factors off the pitch often play a role in what occurs on the pitch.
Arne Slot’s men went through a summer of significant change after winning the Premier League last summer.
A whole host of players joined the club, whilst many departures were sanctioned.
A transition like that takes time and an inevitable drop-off in quality was evident as the team attempted to find a way to play with each other.
As a result it has culminated in a disappointing title defence.
For the women’s side it is no different, as key players left the club last summer, leaving the side in a much weaker position.
Vice-captain Taylor Hinds, who was hugely important for the Reds during her time at the club, departed for Arsenal, as well as the hugely talented forward Olivia Smith.
As a result, it has been a difficult season for Liverpool Women’s, but today’s result gives them something to cheer about.
Liverpool Women’s beat Everton Women’s 3-2 in the WSL this afternoon to record victory in the Merseyside Derby and notch their first away win of the season.
Three first-half strikes from the Reds set them on their way as Everton collapsed within the opening forty minutes.
Ceri Holland notched a brace, whilst Alejandra Bernabe forced Everton player Martina Fernandez to divert a header into her own net.
Everton launched a comeback in the second half and Liverpool’s worries deepened when Grace Fisk was shown a yellow card for tripping Everton’s Zara Kramzar off the ball in the 66th minute.
Everton scored a penalty late on, but it wasn’t enough as the Reds came away with all three points.
It has been a difficult season for Liverpool, but that victory stretches the distance between them and the drop zone as Leicester City sit eight points behind them.
