It’s becoming a daily occurrence now that one of Newcastle United’s key players is being linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer.

While fans are still reeling from the suggestion that Sandro Tonali believes he has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that will allow him to leave Newcastle in the summer, Anthony Gordon’s name has also been in the news, with a possible exit mooted.

One day, Newcastle will be one of the clubs that journalists link players to, rather than being one that is deemed not good enough to have stars of a certain quality.

That’s how it feels when our top players are constantly linked to one of the ‘legacy’ clubs, as if the ‘Big Six’ has some divine right to the best players from the ‘other 14’.

Gunners want Gordon?

The latest claim is that Anthony Gordon is being coveted by Arsenal, who originally had hopes of signing PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. However, Sky Sports has reported that neither PSG nor Kvaratskhelia have any designs on a change this summer.

Sky Sports believes that the Gunners will instead turn their attentions to Anthony Gordon or Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, which could be bad news for Newcastle.

If Gordon performs well at the World Cup for England, he’s only going to generate more interest, and Arsenal could be more inclined to make a move.

If Newcastle don’t have plans in place that will keep their big stars at the club, this summer could turn into a nightmare. The Magpies already want at least six new signings, but if they start haemorrhaging players, that number will only increase.

Currently, it looks like Tino Livramento could head to Manchester City after pausing talks over a new deal. Sandro Tonali links never seem to go away, and fans are losing faith that we’ll be able to keep hold of him this summer.

Joe Willock is likely to be sold, while Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar are out of contract at the end of the season, and it seems on-loan Aaron Ramsdale will be sent back to Southampton.

If Newcastle fails to qualify for Europe, some of our bigger players may get itchy feet. While losing one or two big players almost feels inevitable at this point, we can’t afford to lose too many, or we’d almost be starting from scratch.
