The Blues sit third in the division with a game in hand, but they won’t be in action on Good Friday, returning with a home match against Birmingham City on Easter Monday instead.

Asked if the international break has come at the right time for the team, Matusiwa replied: “If you want to get promoted, you have to win most of the games. It doesn’t matter when they come.

“It’s always nice to have a little break to reset the body, to recover and to go again.

“I don’t know if this [international break] comes at the right moment, yes or no, but even if it was next week, we’d be ready for the games.”

Matusiwa is new into the Championship, having previously played in the Eredivisie and Ligue 1.

The midfielder has had to adapt to the English game, but also the brutal fixture list. He’ll get a proper taste of that in the run-in, where Town will play eight games in 27 games.

He’s fully up for the challenge.

“It’s something I like, yes,” Matusiwa explained. “I like to play games, a lot of games, but it’s not something I’ve had in Holland or France.

“Maybe one or two times, but not as crazy as this. You also have fewer teams in those leagues. If you have a lot of teams, it means you play more games.

“I really like it. I think every player would rather play than train. I’m positive about it.”
