Templeman Place comprises 16 one-bed and 11 two-bed flats, the development is a significant achievement for BCP Council in transforming a stalled site into much needed council housing.
The homes are designed to be easy to move around in and suitable for a range of needs. The homes include modern, energy efficient features to help keep them warm and comfortable.
Residents living in the properties will benefit from balconies, patios and a communal garden as well as from onsite parking and electric vehicle charging points.
All homes at Templeman Place are let at social rent, typically around half the cost of private renting. The new properties mean that residents living in larger council homes will be able to downsize if they wish, freeing up family-sized homes for those who need them most.
After the original contractor was unable to continue, the local authority secured a new delivery partner and additional funding.
In total, BCP Council has invested £6.8million, including £2.97million from Homes England’s Affordable Homes Programme 2021–2026, helping to get the scheme back on track and completed within 12 months of restarting.
These homes form part of a wider programme to deliver 937 new council owned homes across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. It is expected that 118 new homes will be delivered in 2026/27.
The development is the first new housing scheme delivered since BCP Homes received a C1 rating, the highest possible grading from the Regulator of Social Housing.
Cllr Millie Earl, leader of BCP Council, said: “These 27 new homes at Templeman Place will give people the stability and peace of mind they deserve. Many families have waited a long time for a safe, warm home they can feel proud of, and I am pleased we can now hand over keys that will make a real difference to their lives.
“Our C1 rating showed we are headed in the right direction, but the real success is seeing residents in homes that meet their needs. We will keep working hard to deliver more for our communities.”
