Jamie Carragher has admitted that he thought Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard would hit Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne levels at Arsenal.

Jamie Carragher says Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard have been disappointing this season
Jamie Carragher claims that both Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard have been disappointing this season.
The former Liverpool defender felt that both Arsenal attackers would go on to become superstars in the Premier League a few years back, but that has not been the case.
Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher said: “I thought two years ago, Saka and Odegaard were looking like what I was thinking, ‘Oh God, these are the real deal’. These are like, this is going to be like Salah and De Bruyne type, they’re nearly there and they just never.”
The Liverpool legend claims that the whole of Arsenal’s attack will probably be rather underwhelmed by how they have performed this season.

“The team are probably going to win the league, but I think if Arsenal win the league this season, I don’t think one of the attacking players will go, I’ve had an amazing season, I’ve been brilliant this season,” he added.
Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard’s underwhelming Arsenal stats
Saka really struggled in the Carabao Cup final and failed to make his mark against Man City, with the Gunners losing 2-0.
Mikel Arteta’s system has not helped Saka, with the sense that the winger is not being given the license to do what he wants.
Over the course of the 2025/26 campaign, Saka has managed just nine goals, which could be his lowest tally since the 2020/21 season.
In the case of Odegaard, the captain is still out with another injury, but when he has played this term, he has managed just one goal and seven assists in 27 matches.
Arsenal have struggled to really blow teams away this season, and that is largely due to their attacking players failing to make themselves counted.
