Liverpool’s agreement with Mohamed Salah is set to send shockwaves through the transfer market — but the Reds won’t earn a single cent from his departure.
Salah is set to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season, confirming the decision in a bombshell video on social media. The Egyptian forward signed a fresh two-year contract just last summer, but his performances this season have fallen short, contributing to a disappointing title defense.
As such, Salah and Liverpool have agreed that he can go for nothing at the end of the season. It means Liverpool won’t get any transfer fee for the Egyptian forward. The Premier League champions also released a statement saying an agreement has been reached to end his “remarkable” nine-year stint on Merseyside.

His agent Ramy Abbas confirmed Tuesday evening that no plans have been finalized regarding Mohamed Salah’s next destination. “We do not know where Mohamed will play next season,” Abbas said via Romano. “This also means that no one else knows.”
Liverpool’s statement read: “Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.
“With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”
Salah has been strongly linked with a potential summer exit, with many believing that leaving at the end of the season would be in the best interest of all parties involved.

Salah is currently Liverpool’s highest-paid player, earning £400,000 ($545,000) per week, significantly ahead of second‑highest earner Virgil van Dijk. The Egyptian’s total annual salary exceeds £20 million ($27 million). Any club in the market for the winger will have to be prepared to shell out for a hefty wage bill.
The most likely option will be the Saudi Pro League. Salah admitted in May 2025 that discussions with league officials had been “serious,” noting that a move likely would have materialized had he not renewed his contract with Liverpool.
Salah is reportedly among the top candidates being considered by Saudi Pro League officials to potentially succeed Cristiano Ronaldo, alongside Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes. If he accepts an offer, the Egyptian star could potentially triple his current Liverpool weekly salary.
