Residents are advised by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary to closely inspect all cash they handle due to ongoing reports of fake notes appearing within bundles of genuine currency.
The Bank of England has stated that it does not reimburse counterfeit notes, making it crucial for both customers and vendors to be vigilant.
Anyone who comes across a counterfeit note is urged to contact the police.

If the situation is an emergency, the public should call 999.
Otherwise, the police provide several options for reporting non-fraud crime, including online portals.
If individuals have information about counterfeit money being produced, sold, or used, they are encouraged to report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The police are also asking residents to spread the word about this warning and suggest they sign up for Hampshire Alerts to stay informed.
However, officials have emphasised that this alert service is not a channel for reporting crimes.
Those affected by fraud, phishing emails, or unwanted calls linked to scams are urged to report through the designated channels and phone providers.
The police also noted that quick reporting and appropriate handling of suspicious incidents could help in tackling the counterfeiting problem.
