Wrexham have been told signing Jack Grealish would be a “great story” with the £100million man’s days at Manchester City coming to an end.

Grealish, 30, became the most expensive British footballer of all time when he swapped boyhood side Aston Villa for City back in 2021. However, he has since lost his place in the starting side and was shipped out on loan to Everton in the summer.

The 30-year-old has shown glimpses of his past self, but is currently on the sidelines with a knee injury. And English football icon Chris Waddle has tipped Grealish to make the move to Wrexham in the summer.

Speaking to BetVictor, Waddle said: He’s 30 now so Jack Grealish will be looking for a new contract elsewhere, I’m sure, because Man City are moving on. His days at Man City, let’s be honest, are over.

“They’re just hoping that somebody might take him. To get rid of him, they’re going to probably have to give him a free transfer, or it would be a very low price to get him off the wage bill.

“I think he’s done alright at Everton, on that left-hand side, giving them balance. He’s on a lot of money. Is he really that good of a player to command that wage or a transfer fee to another Premier League club? Probably not…

“What about if a team like Wrexham get promoted? He’s the sort of name Wrexham would look at, wouldn’t he?

“But whether they could afford him, I’m not sure. Wrexham would get hit quite heavily with Financial Fair Play coming in and the size of your crowds and what you earn. But, yeah, that would be a good story.”

Wrexham are currently looking at four consecutive promotions as they eye a spot in the Premier League. However, if they want to reach the Prem, it’s looking likley they’ll have to navigate the play-offs.

Waddle added: “It would be an amazing story if they went into the Premier League. What an achievement that would be. And it’s still a possibility.

“Let’s be honest, we are talking about Wrexham going into the Premier League at the minute. It is a possibility.

“But listen, even if they fall away a bit and lose in the playoffs or whatever, you can just say what an unbelievable four years the football club has had.

“And that could give them the appetite to say, ‘You know what, what were we short this year? Not a lot. Let’s add another two or three players and next year will be even stronger.’

“I think their dream is obviously to get to the Premier League and break the mould. But if it’s not this year, I wouldn’t think they’d back off next year. I think they’d go even more for it.”
