The crew from Springbourne Fire Station visited Tops Muscliff Nursery in Bournemouth this week, arriving with their fire engine as part of the children’s theme on ‘people who help us.’
During the visit, children were invited to sit inside the fire engine, explore its control panels, and take a close look at the hoses.
Firefighters also explained their protective gear and equipment, helped children try on real helmets, and even let them use the radio to ‘talk’ to the crew.

Teresa Barbero-Lopez, nursery manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome the team from Springbourne Fire Station to Tops Muscliff.
“Experiences like this are invaluable for our children, bringing their learning to life in such an exciting and meaningful way.
“The firefighters were fantastic with the children, taking the time to answer their questions and involve them in hands on activities that helped build their understanding of safety and the important role they play in our community.
“Moments like these help our children feel proud of the everyday heroes who support and protect our community.
“It was a truly memorable visit, and we are so grateful for their time and support.”
The visit followed several weeks of themed learning at the nursery, with activities focused on fire safety and the work of firefighters.
Children had been building model fire stations, engaging in firefighter role-play, creating related artwork, and reading books about emergency services.
Meeting real firefighters and exploring a working fire engine helped to reinforce and bring context to their classroom activities.

As a token of thanks, the children presented the firefighters with handmade ‘thank you’ flowers crafted in their nursery rooms.
Before leaving, the crew switched on the fire engine’s lights and sirens, much to the children’s delight.
The nursery team has publicly thanked Springbourne Fire Station for their time and enthusiasm.
Experiences like this not only create lasting memories for the children but also help them learn about community safety, respect for emergency services, and the many different ways people help others every day.
