The Seagulls are preparing to face Liverpool at the Amex on Saturday (12.30pm) aiming to build on a run of three wins from four games.
It will be their last game for three weeks and could give them a great platform to chase a European place when action resumes.
Their campaign will be put on hold by FA Cup quarter-final weekend and the first international window of 2026.
They will return to action next month with back-to-back trips to Burnley and Spurs while the subsequent home game, versus Chelsea, is likely to be rescheduled due to the FA Cup.
Albion’s recent flurry of nine points from a possible 12 has done little to improve their league standing in terms of position.
But, in terms of points, it has moved them away from any danger and put them within reach of several teams above them.
Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen said: “Obviously we had the tough period but I think now we finally turned the page and stepped out of it.
“Now we’re three for four. We lost to Arsenal, which of course is a tough game, but I think we showed enough that we came out of that period.
“I don’t think we always played badly in the games that we lost, but maybe we gave away goals cheaply or maybe we didn’t finish our chances.
“Even the Arsenal game we probably lost in both boxes. So I don’t think we played badly but I do think that a game like Sunderland shows that we have improved in terms of maturity and getting these results over the line.”
A second successive home win over Liverpool would leave Albion just six points behind the defending champions.
Brentford missed a chance to make significant progress in the race for Europe when they drew 2-2 at home to Wolves on Monday night having led 2-0 late in the first half.
