Manchester United will aim to bolster their bid for a Champions League spot as they gear up to take on Bournemouth on Friday night. A positive outcome against the Cherries could see Michael Carrick’s squad widen the gap to their rivals.
Carrick clinched a huge victory against Aston Villa in United’s last match, which saw them open up a three point lead on Villa in fourth. Goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko contributed to the revitalised atmosphere that Carrick has fostered since taking charge.
The trip to Bournemouth presents another challenge to United’s Champions League aspirations. They are expected to be without several players, including Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez, although Mason Mount is back from injury.

Off the pitch, there are rumours of United loanee Jadon Sancho attracting transfer interest. MEN Sport examines some of the headlines surrounding the club.
Michael Carrick plan
United boss Carrick has clarified that he won’t rush Mason Mount back into his starting line-up. The 27-year-old recently made a comeback to the matchday squad against Villa but hasn’t played since the manager’s first game at the helm two months ago.
“Starting would be too much, I think, at this point, [for Mason],” Carrick explained. “Just for the training time and the exposure he’s had, really.
“But it’s brilliant to have him back. He’s a fantastic player, Mason, and great to have around the group again.
“So [I’m] delighted to have him back and, obviously, the break coming up now gives him a chance to get even more up to speed. So, in some ways, that’s come at a good time for him.”

Jadon Sancho targeted
Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has reportedly caught the eye of his former club Borussia Dortmund. The winger is currently on loan at Aston Villa.
The Times reports that Dortmund are hopeful of securing Sancho for a third stint when his United contract ends in the summer. The club had previously refrained from signing wingers due to manager Niko Kovac’s preferred style of play but it’s claimed that the coach has given his approval for a deal to be pursued.
A high-profile signing from Dortmund in 2021, Sancho struggled to hit top form in a United shirt and briefly returned to the German club in 2024. The 25-year-old spent the previous season with Chelsea before finalising a last-minute move to Villa, where he has featured in 18 league matches this campaign.
