Kenneth Taylor was a target for FC Porto and was keen on moving to the Invicta, but Ajax refused to let him go and the midfielder ultimately ended up joining Lazio.
Taylor had been on FC Porto’s radar during the last two transfer windows, but the move to the Dragão never materialized. At the time of Porto’s interest, the Dutch midfielder was playing for Ajax, where he had already worked with Francesco Farioli, and he didn’t hide his frustration over the failed transfer.
“To be honest, I really wanted to join FC Porto. I was ready for a new challenge and I really wanted to play under Farioli again,” said the Netherlands international in an interview.
“In the end, it didn’t happen, even though I was expecting it to. I was very disappointed and struggled with it for a while. But at the end of the day, I believe everything happens for a reason, and staying at Ajax wasn’t a punishment. It’s the club I love,” Taylor added.
During the winter transfer window, Taylor moved to Lazio, who paid around €17 million for the 23-year-old midfielder. Farioli didn’t stay indifferent and, according to the player, sent him a message afterward.
“He said he liked me a little less! He apologized, but also congratulated me. I really enjoyed working with him. He’s a top-level coach. It’s no surprise that almost everyone was in tears when he said goodbye to us at Ajax,” Taylor concluded, having scored one goal in 12 appearances for Lazio.
