Nottingham Forest star Murillo might have been on the bench when Brazil last played an international, but this time he’s been snubbed by Carlo Ancelotti.

That could be good news for Forest with a crunch Premier League game against Tottenham coming up.

What is your score prediction for Nottingham Forest’s trip to Tottenham?

Murillo has missed a number of games this season for the first time since 2023, when he checked in from Corinthians, and Forest have sorely missed him when he’s not played.

After Sunday, there will be an international break and ahead of the game with Tottenham, Ancelotti might have done Forest a sizeable favour in the build-up to the relegation six-pointer.

It will hurt Murillo to not get the nod to head off to join the latest Brazil squad, and now he has the golden chance to prove Ancelotti wrong.

Tottenham striker Richarlison is named by Ancelotti, and if he can pocket his compatriot on Sunday, it might leave Ancelotti wondering what on earth he’s done by leaving him out.

Murillo will be concerned knowing that this is the penultimate squad before Ancelotti picks his selections for the World Cup, which takes place during the summer.

Now, he can prove a big point by ensuring he’s at his very best against Tottenham, keeping Richarlison quiet and helping Forest towards a big three points.

To date, Murillo only has one Brazil cap, and that does seem quite remarkable given how much exposure he’s got to the Premier League since arriving at the City Ground.

Ancelotti’s call is extremely good news for Forest

It’s great to see Forest players head off and play for their countries during international breaks, but in the case of Murillo, it’s great to think he will earn himself a long rest.

It’s been a stop-start season for the defender, who has missed seven Premier League games through injury during the 2025/26 campaign.

Murillo will now put his feet up after games with Midtjylland and Tottenham have taken place, and that can only bode well for Forest going forward.

After the latest international break, it will be full steam ahead for the final seven games of the season, and Forest need Murillo as fresh as possible for all of those fixtures.
