Sheena Dayman, known as ‘The JOY Lady’ in Bournemouth, has organised happiness-filled activities for nearly two decades, even while facing personal heartbreak.

Ms Dayman said: “Joy is a choice as well as a gift.

“It is not the same as happiness, as it is not dependant on circumstances.

“Joy is so much more than that, it is part of my being.”

Ms Dayman’s understanding of joy was deeply shaped in 2016 when her eldest child was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Despite this, she continues to dedicate herself to bringing light to others.

She has spent almost 20 years working at YMCA Bournemouth as an events manager, planning a wide range of fundraising and awareness events, including a recent sleepout with 20 schools, scouts, and business people to raise awareness of homeless.

Recently Sheena and 36 others, raised funds for Joy to the World, at Joy Indian Restaurant in Ferndown.

In her spare time, she organises community JOY events, including ‘Joy to the World’ at Castlepoint at Christmas, where 2500 bags of Joy were handed out while many community groups, schools and churches sang carols on a stage outside M&S.

Ms Dayman said: “Joy is for the whole world that is the meaning of Christmas.”
