Motorists and residents across the area are being urged to plan ahead as BCP Council, utility providers, and contractors start a wide range of works on local highways from March 16 to March 22, 2026.

These works will affect dozens of roads and key junctions, with delays and diversions expected throughout the week.

Road Closures and Diversions

Some of the most significant disruption is expected in Poole, where a number of full road closures will force drivers onto diversion routes.

Bradstock Close is closed until March 17 for council resurfacing, while Bridport Road is shut from Monkton Crescent to Bloxworth Road until March 18 for similar work.

Encombe Close is also closed through March 17, and Kirkway will remain closed until March 20 for gas network upgrades by Southern Gas Network.

Sandecotes Road will be shut from Bournemouth Road to Compton Avenue from March 17 to March 20 for BCP resurfacing.

Preston Road is closed outside number 48 from March 16 to March 20 due to Wessex Water maintenance works, and Wessex Road has two closures: outside numbers 15-22 from March 16 to March 20 for SSEPD installation, and outside numbers 5-13 from March 16 to March 18 for BT maintenance.

All these closures will have signed diversion routes in operation.

In Bournemouth, Hill View Road is closed outside Hill View Primary School until March 18 for council installation works, while Layton Road at the junction with Ashley Road in Poole will be closed until March 18 for BT works.

Night-time closures are also planned, including Chewton Farm Road in Christchurch, shut from Walkford Road to Ringwood Road nightly from March 19 to March 24.

Dorset Way’s eastbound carriageway between Holes Bay North roundabout and Tower Park will also be closed at night from March 16 to March 18 for expansion joint replacement works.

On the A338 Spur Road in Christchurch, a night-time closure is in force from March 16 to March 20 for grass cutting, litter picking and highways cleaning, with closures each evening from 8pm to 6am.

Temporary Traffic Signals and Carriageway Restrictions

Many key junctions and thoroughfares will have multi-way traffic lights in operation.

In Poole, Adastral Road at Adastral Square Subway will have temporary signals from March 17 to March 20 due to council repairs.

Alder Hills, outside the Royal Mail Sorting Office, will have signals from March 18 to March 25 during SSEPD installation works.

In Bournemouth, Branksome Wood Road, Columbia Road outside number 325, and Lindsay Road outside number 6 will all see traffic lights or signals for maintenance and upgrades.

In Christchurch, Barrack Road outside the Sports Pavilion gets temporary lights from March 16 for loop cutting works, and Christchurch Road outside Corpus Christi Primary School will have night-time signals from March 19.

Several locations, including Castle Lane West (outside 374 and at Woodbury Avenue), Holdenhurst Road, Herbert Avenue, Sandbanks Road, and Salisbury Road outside Kimbolton Cottage, will see temporary carriageway restrictions or lights for water, telecom, or utility works.

Longer-Term and Ongoing Works

Some larger-scale and ongoing schemes will continue to affect journeys.

The Madeira Road and Lansdowne Road area in Bournemouth is subject to road closures and restrictions until June 26, 2026 as part of major installation and resurfacing projects.

Stafford Road, from Madeira Road to Lorne Park Road, is also closed for council works relating to the new school.

Westover Road, between Bath Road and Gervis Place, and Twin Sails Approach and West Quay Road in Poole both have ongoing carriageway or development-related restrictions.

Signed diversion routes will be in place where needed, and live updates on roadworks are available at the One Network website.

All planned works are subject to weather and operational changes, so residents and commuters are urged to check latest details before travelling.
