Butcombe Group has announced plans for a major expansion of The Brown Cow in Fulham, as the business continues to invest in high-performing sites across its growing London managed estate.

Having secured the neighbouring property to the existing venue, the development will see The Brown Cow double in size, significantly increasing the capacity for customers whether they are visiting for drinks or also eating. The expansion is also expected to double the size of the pub’s labour team, supporting local employment opportunities and strengthening the business’s long-term presence in the Fulham community.

One of the key drivers behind the expansion is a significant rise in customer demand for richer, more immersive pub experiences. Guests are increasingly looking for more than great food and drink, with a growing expectation for social and interactive spaces. In response, the redevelopment of the venue will introduce electric shuffle boards, multiple screens for live spots and bookable areas designed to host everything from parties and celebrations, to meetings and local gatherings.

The decision to invest in the site on Fulham Road follows a standout year for Butcombe Group’s London pubs, which have delivered like-for-like sales growth of 11.6% across the managed estate. Strong returns at The Brown Cow, as well as The Punch Bowl, Mayfair, The Fulham Arms, Fulham, and The Cross Keys, Chelsea have reinforced the Group’s confidence in the capital and paved the way for further targeted investment in key neighbourhoods in the city. Alongside this recent strong performance, an earlier phase of investment at The Brown Cow drove such rapid growth in demand and guest numbers which also prompted the need for this expansion.

Jayson Perfect, Chief Operations Officer of Butcombe Group, said: “London continues to be a hugely exciting market for us, and The Brown Cow is a fantastic example of how our pubs can thrive when we combine excellent teams, prime locations and unbeatable guest experiences.

“We’ve seen a real shift in what customers want when visiting a pub – they’re looking for spaces where they can socialise, celebrate, watch sport or enjoy activities together. This redevelopment gives us the opportunity to build those experiences into the heart of the venue.

“We’re proud to report the strength of our London portfolio over the past year, and this investment will allow us to welcome even more guests, whilst creating meaningful new employment in Fulham. As we continue to grow in the capital, we remain committed to investing in the pubs, people and communities that make our estate so special.”

The Brown Cow will remain true to its signature premium pub offer as it expands, with an enhanced bar area, extended dining space and refreshed design that reflects Butcombe Group’s focus on character, comfort and hospitality. Work will begin in March, with reopening planned for the start of May.
