Lewis Hall’s brilliant form for Newcastle United is likely to earn him an England recall just at the right time.

Indeed, Hall has made two appearances for England and briefly played under Three Lions head coach Thomas Tuchel earlier in his career at Chelsea.

While the 21-year-old has been excellent since returning from a hamstring injury in November, Hall’s performance for Newcastle against Barcelona made headlines

Let’s hear it then 👇

The Newcastle star completely shut down Lamine Yamal from open play, shining in what has been a problem position for England over the years.

The lack of a natural left-back was a major talking point at Euro 2024 and it seems as if that is unlikely to continue at the 2026 World Cup.

According to The Daily Mail, Tuchel is likely to include the defender in his squad for their upcoming games against Uruguay and Japan later this month.

I’ll wait…

Manchester United’s Luke Shaw, who has performed that role for the last three major tournaments, is reportedly likely to miss out.

It’s also said that Tuchel will include the likes of Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon in his squad, which will be named next week.

That would make it a remarkable four Newcastle players in an England squad just before the 2026 World Cup – giving them a great chance of making the final squad at the end of the season.

Hall’s biggest competition for England

Shaw, despite his standing in the national team over the years, is no longer Hall’s biggest competition.

During the Tuchel era, Djed Spence and Nico O’Reilly have operated at left-back.

Neither are natural left-backs, however. Spence largely operates on the right, while O’Reilly is more of a midfielder.

As such, Hall has a great chance of landing a starting berth for the World Cup. Livramento may actually be his biggest competition when he is fit, but he is not a natural left-back either.

Seeing Hall starting for England at the World Cup would be brilliant from a Newcastle fan perspective.

The defender struggled during his opening few months at the club but has since become a genuine star on Tyneside.
