Wolverhampton Wanderers are now the frontrunners to sign a young South American sensation, who is wanted by two other clubs in the Premier League.

Edwards aiming to carry “momentum” to next season

Wolves may be going down, but they’re not going down without spoiling a few parties along the way. In recent weeks, those in the Midlands have rescued a last-gasp draw against Arsenal, beaten Liverpool at the death and defeated rivals Aston Villa.

It’s not been enough to take them close to survival, but Rob Edwards has at least given Molineux a sense that better days are on their way, even if it means a season in the Championship.

The Wolves boss is already looking ahead to next season with his side’s fate all but sealed, telling reporters earlier this week: “It was difficult when we came here but I feel now, across the board and with the supporters, there’s a different energy around – more people with smiles on their faces and I can see them getting behind the team.

“Our aim is, and always has been, to try to achieve as many points as possible. Go into every game trying to win it. Try to take things as far as we can and take momentum into next season.

“Once you get momentum you want to try to keep things going and ride that wave. We have had a couple of decent results but our performances for some time have been consistent.”

More important than Mane: Edwards has struck gold on “incredible” Wolves star

Wolves have plenty of quality to assist them in bouncing back into the Premier League ahead of probable relegation.

Preparation for next season arguably started in the January transfer window when Wolves welcomed Championship specialist Adam Armstrong and will continue in the summer transfer window.

Just who arrives is the big question. Reports have already mentioned names like Swansea’s Zan Vipotnik have already threatened to steal the headlines and he may not be the only arrival.

Wolves frontrunners to sign “magnificent” Moreira

According to Sports Boom, Wolves are now frontrunners to sign Afonso Moreira from Lyon alongside Premier League rivals Bournemouth and Brighton.

The 20-year-old has caught the attention of scouts in France this season, blowing them away every time he’s received an opportunity for Lyon.

With six goals and nine assists in 28 appearances, it doesn’t take much to figure out why he’s already on Wolves’ radar ahead of next season. The Portuguese winger would transform Edwards’ frontline.

Praised for a “magnificent” moment in his career by talent scout Jacek Kulig in October, the best is yet to come from Moreira, who could be on his way to English football.
