Bologna’s Juan Miranda has explained why he snubbed Nottingham Forest in the 2026 winter market.

Thursday’s edition of Sport has an interview with the left-back, who joined the Serie A side from Real Betis in July 2024. Sport is a local Catalan newspaper and their interest comes from Miranda having come through La Masia.

He stayed with Barcelona until 2024, failing to make the breakthrough. After a spell at Real Betis, he’s now making a name for himself at Bologna.

Nottingham Forest looked towards Italy in January, as they wanted to add a new left-back to their squad.

At that time, Sport Witness covered claims from the Italian media of the Reds’ interest in Napoli’s Mathías Olivera.

The Premier League side initially offered €15m for the Uruguay international and wanted to raise it to €18m. However, this fell short of the Naples club’s request of €20m and the transfer didn’t go through.

As well as Olivera, Nottingham Forest also made an attempt to bring Miranda to the City Ground.

It’s worth noting there weren’t any concrete claims of the English club’s offer for the 26-year-old during the January window.

Fast forward to March and Sport now categorically ask Miranda about Nottingham Forest’s offer.

There’s no mention of the fee proposed and the player, without denying it, explained he snubbed Forest because he wanted to stay at Bologna.

“I don’t think it was the right time to go to the Premier League,” he said.

“I’m very happy here in Bologna. They’ve given me everything, they believed in me, and the truth is, I’m doing well, which is what’s important.

“I have two years left on my contract, I’m doing great here, I like Italian football, and right now I’m not thinking about anything else. We want to qualify for the Europa League again this year, which is the club’s objective, and then, well, we’ll see.”

Right move to snub Premier League

The fullback has featured regularly since joining Bologna. To put it in context, he played 70 matches in all competitions so far and 32 are from this season.

As he’s doing well at Bologna, it made sense for his side to not entertain Nottingham Forest’s January approach.

Miranda has a contract until 2027 and Transfermarkt value him €15m.

Without a renewal, Bologna could be forced to sell him in the summer, to avoid losing him for free in 2027.

Whether the Premier League club return in the summer remains to be seen.
