I want to share my opinion about our squad losing in the big ties, I have seen lot going on this sub and though there is no denying we have been losing these big games- I personally don't think that it is on Chivu.
What are coach's responsibilities? Team management and giving a system that works, and I believe his system works.. it's the team that is lacking the grit against these big games or the shortcomings in squad he has to work with. let's look at some big games this season-

Milan derby- can you really blame Chivu here when there were two clear chances created but Mkhi and Dimarco just couldn't finish it while the goal we conceded was because Chivu is forced to play Luis who is just not cut out at least defensively. How much of it was Chivu's fault?

Liverpool game- How much of it is Chivu's fault that Bastoni pulled Wirtz's shirt for no good reason and gave them a gift penalty in last minutes when we actually looked like we could score?

Atletico Madrid game- We absolutely dominated that game in all stats away from our home while playing the derby 4 days back and the squad conceded a goal at 90+3' just coz they were not locked in defensively.

First Milan derby- Maignan make world class saves on Toro and Thuram and Acerbi hits the post and Calhanoglu misses the penalty while Sommer just gives kind rebound to Pulisic to score. We created so much more but the problem was the man we had between the post was no where near good enough the man Milan had between their post.

First Derby D' Italia- Nothing to say here, two goals from outside the box almost any goalkeeper in Serie A would have saved and one goal easily conceded from set piece because we were shit defending set pieces.

I can go on about other games, but when I look at these games- I do see problem but I don't see how Chivu is to get the blame for these games. Most games we lost were due to individual errors and mistakes just because we are fielding players like Luis Henrique and Sommer (I love him for everything but its time) who just are not good enough for the squad, and am sorry if it doesn't fit the narrative but I dont see Chivu losing all these games if only we had a good starter Goalkeeper and a wingback as Chivu wanted in winter market.
Now again I want to stress this point that by no means am saying that there is no problem, there is, and this squad lacks in some key places but I dont see why Chivu takes all the blame and is criticized. In my opinion he is doing more than good enough with tools at his disposal, if he gets support in the summer I believe he can show up in big games as well. and lets not pretend our record was not getting bad in big league games last season too with Inzhagi, something has been missing and I dont think the blame is on our tactician here.
again, this is just my opinion and am all ears to hear yours.

I honestly feel replacing Sommer with a good GK will solve lots of problems. He also hasn’t had Dumfries for the most part. Chivu isn’t as experienced as Inzaghi is he’s obviously going to make mistakes here and there. But he’s performed way above expectations. People literally wrote off the season after the Juve loss. Now the team is 7 points ahead and could possibly win 2 trophies this season even with all the problems.

La Forza dell’Inter, almeno in campionato l, è perdere pochi punti con le medio piccole. Cosa che le altre non hanno quest’anno

Honestly I feel like the latest Milan derby was the only one we actually played bad and deserved to lose. On the other hand I feel like when the games have a bigger specific weight we struggle. We do have our weak points, like if we go down against good teams we are pretty much doomed. The point is, we end up discussing over and over again the same thing: while our tactics are good our play style can become rather predictable when opponents figure it out. We have seen the 3-4-3 but honestly we don’t have the right players. That being said I do think our squad is good but we clearly lack someone who dribbles, breaks the game, pace up the rhythm. We rely to much on squad flow. We are like an ecosystem when playing, which is good but that doesn’t allow us to be unpredictable.

Like half of it. The rest of problem probably because the shitty transfer quality by the boards.

I will say it again. Winning trophies is more important than winning big games. If we win Scudetto and Copa but Milan wins “we won against Inter trophy”, I’ll take that every season.

Also, winning big games can be solved. Chivu is just starting his career as Inter manager. The future is exciting.

  6. He has responsibilities in most matches, despite not having a great team honestly, but Sommer keeps starting, some players are always out of position (Zielinski) without trying others there.

He’s not forced to play Henrique but the only alternative he thought of was Augusto on the inverted foot.

He keeps wanting to go centrally against teams who defend very well closing themselves resulting in shitshows like against Bodo or Milan.

Or wants to play high tempo with overlaps when there is 0 space.

We’ve lost most of the fluidity, unpredictability and movements we had with the previous coach, we are now very predictable.

He doesn’t read games well and subs are wrong most of the times including formation changes (4-2-3-1), always trying the impossible (wingers that can’t really dribble on inverted foot trying to go where there’s no space). Overall he is an okay manager in my opinion but not top team level and all of this plus other stuff I’m likely forgetting explains the losses. Against good teams you pay this stuff, against smaller ones you do even better than before by being more direct and aggressive.

  7. Take in consideration the fact this is his first role ever managing a high quality & high egos squad, within a high expectations club. I think he is doing great so far and he also shows huge room for self improvement.

  8. I would say a decent amount. It was his choice to not make much changes to last season and use 3 back like Inzaghi did. Also it is his lack of experience as a manager to rely heavily on crossing causing goal drought through the middle. Most managers make drastic changes to implement their football in a new team but Chivu didn’t which is a big mistake since this season would have been a perfect opportunity show his football without too much pressue due to low expectation we had for him.

It’s worth mentioning that this team did not have a single win last season against Milan (5 games), Napoli (2 games), and Juve (2 games). So you could argue he inherited a problem he didn’t solve (yet?) but not winning is not solely down to him for sure.

He did not help his case by losing all the CL games against remotely serious teams (feel like he really shouldn’t have lost against this Liverpool team or Atletico considering the way the game was going) but it’s all part of gaining experience for a guy who’s had 12 first team games before takin charge of Inter.

I’ll take the scudetto and then let’s see what next season brings. And I’m also curious to see how he manages the next few crucial games. If Inter wins all 3, I’ll be proud because they’re managing it despite the injuries and a potential panic mode after a Milan loss.

So, lots of room for improvement that will be forgotten about if he wins scudetto but next season everyone will want to see at least some progress which would mean winning more than just against Juve in 90th at home with 11 vs 10.

We absolutely sucked nuts last year during all the big league matches and I can’t understand why people think this is a specific problem to Cri when it was happening under Inzaghi. Under Inzaghi, we fared decently but the turning point imo was the supercoppa disaster v Milan when we lost 3-2 in the dying minutes after coughing up a 2-0 lead. Has Chivu had missteps this year? Of course he has. But to blame him solely for a problem that’s been documented the last few years is farcical.

There are many factors that have contributed to consistently bad performances in these matches, ranging from injuries, lack of depth, tactics, individual brain farts, refereeing decisions, and luck, just to name a few. I also think because of some of the end of season results (losing two scudetti by one point each, losing two CL finals/getting absolutely humiliated in one), the mentalita, grinta, e cuore have taken a hit with this squad. It’s easy to see how fatigued this squad is, mentally and physically. Let’s see how the rest of the season shakes out because at this point in the season, every match until the end is a big game.

  11. He’s not without fault, but our players have shown countless times they shit their pants and have no clue/guts to react properly.

I’d say that only few, like Denzel and Acerbi have the actual “cazzimma” and they never give up.
It says a lot that the decisive goal to tie the game vs Barcelona when it was all over was scored by a defensemen who was completely alone attacking.

But Dumdum has been injured this year and with Acerbi, Father Time is undefeated…
