FLICK: “WE HAVE NO EXCUSES!” 😤 Newcastle 1-1 Barcelona

Post-match press conference with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick after the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle the lead in the 86th minute before Lamine Yamal equalised with a 90+6 penalty.

Newcastle finished with 16 shots to Barcelona’s 9 and 9 corners to 4, while Barcelona had 54.2 per cent possession in a hard fought game on Tyneside.

Flick says Barcelona made too many easy mistakes and lost too many balls, but praised the way his side defended together in a very intense atmosphere. He also said there were no excuses, explained why no risk was taken with Eric Garcia, and stressed that Barcelona must play much better in the second leg.
