Bart van Rooij was disappointed over his failed move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the winter market.
The FC Twente player has been speaking to De Telegraaf and talked about Wolves’ efforts to sign him.
The Dutch club are fourth in the Eredivisie table, five points behind second placed Feyenoord and level on points with fifth placed Ajax.
De Telegraaf have a report on Twente’s rise, and their title says Van Rooij is one of their ‘driving forces’.
Wolves were unable to bring the right-back to Molineux and the newspaper covers this within the report.
Late attempt from PL side
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from the Netherlands of Wolves submitting an offer with over €10m including bonuses. Perhaps crucially, that only arrived on winter deadline day.
On February 4th, the Dutchman expressed his disappointment over the failed transfer. His Twente teammate Daan Rots then said it’s a relief that Van Rooij is still at the club.
The defender has spoken again about the opportunity to join Rob Edwards’ side in the last window. He remains hopeful a new opportunity opens up after this season.
“The world of football brings uncertainty; you don’t know what’s coming next,” he said.
“That’s why I was open to it. It didn’t work out, but it’s up to me to make sure I show something extra, so maybe something will happen again next summer. I was bothered by it for two hours. The next day we played AZ away in the cup, and I just had to be back. I switched gears.”
Why Wolves may not return in summer
The English club are bottom of the table and are trailing 17th placed Nottingham Forest by 12 points.
Wolves are likely to drop to the Championship. Therefore, it’s not a given that they could return for Van Rooij in the next window.
Even if Wolves make a fresh approach, the Dutchman may not be open to a move outside of the Premier League.
Van Rooij has a contract until 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €8m.
