Cody Gakpo has been a great player for the club, scoring key goals in key moments but the system is moving on from Gakpo and he takes up too much of the space for other players key attributes too. Gakpo is still one of my favourite players for the personality he has but I also see where this team is going.

Gakpo is a good back up but he's clearly having trouble being the main guy on the left.
you could just substitute the name Slot for Gakpo throughout this piece and it would be just as valid.

That bit about why the club don't worry about contracts. Isn't it strange? I thought we were a self sustaining club & isn't contracts important, that we ensure we get good returns instead of letting players go for free & we don't get anything for them when we can.
I love Cody. I was so excited when we signed him. I’m sad to see him go, but I agree that he’s a square peg in a round hole in this squad.

i’ll miss gakpo tbh. I think he’s been unfairly treated by the fanbase, he’s just effective and not aesthetic which can be fine
I’ve never seen Gakpo ever win the ball back out of possession he’s lazy and jogs around like Salah with no intention to tackle and win the ball back
I think his output for being a “misfit” in this system we are playing is still quite impressive and he would be a serviceable player in the squad as a whole, but not as a player who is on the team sheet every game.
What frustrates me with the situation is that Rio is getting scrap minutes in games and every appearance he does something exciting that leaves us wanting more. The chances just aren’t there. He’s a really promising young talent and his in-game minutes are just lacking. His flair, in my opinion, would be something really great to see linking up with Wirtz and Ekitike.
I think he just needs the competition. Having Diaz there last season made him fight for his place. I feel like he's guaranteed to start and he's kinda taken his foot off the gas
Any talk of transfers in the summer are so pointless at the moment. Yawn.
Wouldn't sell Cody, he's a good player, but we definitely need another option in that position next to him.

All he does is cut in and shoot.. no crossing, no killer passes, not enough press.. when Mane/Diaz played in his position they were more useful in different ways

Multiple truths – he is a good winger and a good player overall. Another truth, he’s better in the Dutch national side. Another truth – he played better when he had competition in Luis Diaz or Jota (RIP). Another truth – he’s not fitting in at the highest level in this season’s squad, and for me that’s probably more down to Slot than the player, given the other truths above. If he leaves, I will wish him the best and be thankful of the moments he gave to LFC. YNWA

I think basically he needs to be rotated to keep fresh and not let other teams get used to his style.
If we sell him and get one left sided winger then we will be back to square one.

I have nothing particularly bad to say about Cody before this season. This season something seems off about him? But being an ex defender even at a low level I would love marking him someone needs to tell him it’s ok to occasionally go left and attack the byline 😂

He os not a magician but is a really good player. Is just a bad season for him like a normal player in a bad season of your club, but is our second goalscorer btw.
I would sack Slot first. It’s not Gakpo’s fault that he isn’t being benched by his Manager and is being allowed to repeat the same shit over and over again. If the new manager says he doesn’t need Gakpo, I would agree—he’s just too predictable and boring.

With us also clearly needing players in other positions as well just how many are we expected to bring in this summer with a WC going on and a chance we won't qualify for the CL and lose out on a huge amount of guaranteed income?
