Stoke City captain Ben Wilmot has been ruled out for the rest of a season plagued by injuries to key players.

The 26-year-old defender limped out of Stoke’s defeat at Swansea on Saturday, seemingly injured when he blocked a Zan Vipotnik clearance at a set piece as the Potters hunted a second half equaliser.

He went for a scan on Sunday to assess the scale of the damage and Mark Robins has now confirmed he will miss the remaining 10 games, starting with Tuesday night’s home clash with Ipswich Town (8pm).

Stoke have been dogged by injuries through the winter, including Viktor Johansson and the goalkeeper subsequently signed as cover, Gavin Bazunu, right-back Junior Tchamadeu, midfielder Lewis Baker and strikers Robert Bozenik, Sam Gallagher and Divin Mubama.

Tchamadeu made his first appearance since mid-December when he came off the bench on Saturday while left-back Eric Bocat was believed to be substituted a precaution in the second half, particularly as Aaron Cresswell is also currently in the treatment room.

There is illness in the camp too, says Robins, that could affect availability going into the Ipswich game.
