The popular business has had recurring visits from celebrities, including ‘legendary’ Newcastle United players and their families.
Professional footballer Joelinton was featured on the cafe’s Instagram on March 8, with staff saying it was ‘cracking seeing Joe’.
Hjemmelavet, a gelato and cake parlour in Ponteland, has also been visited by Northumberland’s own Big Dan Burn, who staff described as ‘humble and genuine’.
The cafe, on Darras Road, has been praised as a ‘gem’ in various Google reviews and on social media accounts.
Instagram account New Girl in Toon said ‘this spot in the North East is a must-visit for Newcastle United fans, because they’ve created their very own Toon-inspired ice-cream, and you might even bump into a few familiar faces from St James’ Park’.
“Fabulous new cafe in Ponteland,” one Google review said. “The team are very friendly and the food is all excellent.
“We came as a family and had coffees, toasties (the fire cracker cheese one), pasta dishes, and gelato and everything was perfect. A lovely family-run establishment that we’ll visit often!”
Another added: “Wow; what can I say! If you love ice cream; cake; toasties; pastries and coffee (and who doesn’t!) a visit to this Ponteland gem is an absolute must.
“Lovely comfortable surroundings, unobtrusive music, pet-friendly and super-efficient staff are the icing on a wonderful cake, and if you ever need such a thing for a special occasion, Hjemmalavet is most definitely the place to go.”
One customer reviewed their first visit to Hjemmelavet, saying it had a ‘smart but casual ambience’, while staff made them welcome ‘at the outset’.
“Coffee was very good, victoria sandwich cake was divine! The menu is not extensive, but it offers something for everyone, based upon the ethos of “less is more”.
“Everything is made fresh each day and it certainly shows. First visit, won’t be the last,” they added.
